Tampa Bay Buccaneers Elevate Josh Grizzard to Offensive Coordinator

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have officially elevated Josh Grizzard to offensive coordinator, emphasizing their commitment to internal development. Grizzard, who served as the team’s pass game coordinator last season, played a crucial role in the Buccaneers’ offensive success, helping them achieve the NFL’s highest third-down conversion rate (51.11%) and ranking among the top teams in total yards and points scored.
At 34, Grizzard steps in to replace Liam Coen, who recently accepted the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching position. His promotion marks the Buccaneers’ third offensive coordinator change in as many years, following the departures of Coen and Dave Canales. However, the move signals a desire for stability within the franchise as they look to build on their recent success.
“Josh is a bright, innovative coach who was instrumental in our game planning and play design,” said Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles. “After interviewing several excellent candidates, it became clear that the best choice was already within our organization. We had a strong offensive season, and Grizzard’s insights will help us build on that momentum.”
Grizzard joined Tampa Bay after a seven-year tenure with the Miami Dolphins, where he served in various roles, including quality control coach and wide receivers coach. His extensive experience prepared him for a leadership role, and his first year with the Buccaneers saw the team finish with a 10-7 record, securing their fourth consecutive NFC South title.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield flourished under Grizzard’s guidance, throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns—one of the highest totals in the league, despite tying for the most interceptions (16). Grizzard’s influence was particularly evident in the team’s third-down execution, a critical component of their offensive efficiency.
Under his leadership, Tampa Bay’s offense ranked among the league’s best, finishing third in passing yards (4,257) and second in passing touchdowns (41). His ability to develop players and implement effective strategies played a key role in the Buccaneers’ success.
Grizzard’s coaching journey began at Yale, where he worked as a student assistant before moving to Duke University as a graduate assistant. His rapid rise through the collegiate and professional ranks has positioned him as a promising offensive mind in the NFL.
