Jake Elliott aims to recover from his recent slump, with the Eagles never considering a change at kicker.
The Eagles are standing by Jake Elliott as their kicker, expressing full confidence in his ability despite a recent slump. The challenge now lies with Elliott himself as he works to move past his missed kicks.
“I’m trusting what I’ve always done,” Elliott said after the Eagles’ Thursday win. “Even on some misses, I felt good about the ball contact. It’s the Northeast—sometimes they just don’t go in. I’m hitting balls in the net, figuring things out, and doubling down on my plan.”
Elliott missed an extra point and two field goals in the Eagles’ 26-18 victory over the Washington Commanders, leaving seven points on the field. So far this season, he’s made 14 of 19 field goals, matching a career-low success rate of 73.7%—a mark he last hit in 2020. Notably, he is 0-for-4 on attempts from beyond 50 yards, a surprising statistic considering his success with long-range kicks in recent years, including going 12-for-14 from that range in each of the past two seasons.
“Words like ‘pathetic’ and ‘uncharacteristic’ come to mind,” Elliott admitted. “It was a tough night. The most frustrating part is that I felt good hitting the ball, even on some misses. I’ll review the tape and work to bounce back. I’m my own hardest critic and don’t need anyone else to tell me to fix it.”
Elliott, a Second Team All-Pro last season and the Eagles’ all-time leader in 50+ yard field goals, has hit only 5 of 8 attempts in his last three games. His recent struggles prompted head coach Nick Sirianni to offer support during Thursday’s game.
“We have so much faith in Jake,” Sirianni said. “He’s going through a tough time, but this team believes in him because of his track record, his character, and his leadership. I wanted to let him know we all believe in him and are excited for him to bounce back.”
