NC State basketball star trying out for NBA team with a Tar Heel teammate

Former NC State basketball standout TJ Warren aims to make a strong impression on the Kings this week.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick on Monday, at least three experienced players among the leading unsigned NBA free agents are set to audition for the Sacramento Kings this week. One of these candidates is TJ Warren, the NC State basketball program’s most recent ACC Player of the Year from 2012-14.

The 31-year-old Warren has secured a spot in the league each year since being selected as the 14th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.

However, it wasn’t until March that the 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward managed to secure any contract last season. He signed two 10-day contracts with the Minnesota Timberwolves before agreeing to stay with them for the remainder of the season. During his 11 regular season games, he averaged 3.7 points and 2.0 rebounds, but he only played in three playoff games.
