Fresh talent, same determination: Gamecock women’s basketball gears up for the 2024 season.
Head coach Dawn Staley shared the team’s excitement for the upcoming season and their goal of securing another championship.
COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina women’s basketball team, fresh off their 2024 national championship, is preparing for another thrilling season, with Gamecock fans eagerly anticipating the home opener on November 14 at the Colonial Life Arena.
Head coach Dawn Staley conveyed the team’s excitement for the new season and their ambition to win another championship.
“They’ll be open about their feelings. They’re determined to win again and aim for an undefeated season. Once you experience that success, you want more of it,” Staley remarked.
Following last season’s historic victory, Gamecock students are optimistic about the team’s potential to make history by becoming the first South Carolina women’s basketball team to win consecutive national titles.
“I think we should show all the skeptics they’re wrong and win again. That would make it three championships in four years for me, and I plan to celebrate in the fountain this year,” said USC senior Jackson Murphy, referring to the campus tradition of celebrating national championship victories.
