Do Polytechnic Graduates Go To NYSC?

Do Polytechnic Graduates Go To NYSC?

If you are a polytechnic graduate in Nigeria, you might be wondering if you are eligible to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. The NYSC is a one-year mandatory service scheme for Nigerian graduates who are below the age of 30.

The aim of the program is to foster national unity, integration and development among the youth.

The good news is that polytechnic graduates can go to NYSC, as long as they meet the following requirements:

  • You must have completed your Higher National Diploma (HND) program from an accredited polytechnic in Nigeria or abroad.
  • You must have obtained your HND certificate or statement of result from your polytechnic.
  • You must have registered online on the NYSC portal and uploaded your documents.
  • You must have been mobilized by your polytechnic and posted to a state of your choice for the service year.

However, there are some exceptions to this rule. Polytechnic graduates who fall into any of these categories are exempted from NYSC:

  • You are above 30 years old at the time of graduation.
  • You have served in the Nigerian Armed Forces or Police for at least nine months.
  • You have been conferred with a National Honour by the President of Nigeria.

You hold a staff employment in any of the following:

  • Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA)
  • State Security Service (SSS),
  • Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA),
  • National Security Organization (NSO).

If you are exempted from NYSC, you will be issued with an Exemption Certificate, which you can use to apply for jobs or further studies.

In conclusion, polytechnic graduates can go to NYSC, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria and are not exempted. The NYSC program is a great opportunity for polytechnic graduates to gain valuable skills, experience and exposure that can enhance their career prospects and personal development.
