The Mets ink right-handed reliever Dylan Covey to a one-year contract.
**NEW YORK** — The Mets appear focused on bolstering their pitching staff this offseason and are wasting no time getting started.
Shortly after the World Series concluded, the team signed right-hander Dylan Covey to a one-year Major League deal. As a Minor League free agent, Covey was not subject to the post-World Series “quiet period,” which limits teams from negotiating with MLB free agents outside their organization.
This signing follows the Mets’ recent agreement with veteran reliever Chris Devenski on a Minor League deal, though the club has yet to officially announce it.
Covey, 33, was a fourth-round Draft pick and part of the White Sox rotation from 2017 to 2019 before shoulder and back injuries took a toll. After spending two years playing in the Chinese Professional Baseball League, Covey transitioned to a relief role upon returning to the U.S. in 2023. Despite missing time due to a pitching shoulder strain earlier in the year, he rebounded to post a 2.66 ERA across three levels in the Phillies’ system.
