The world legend, Dusty Baker haa been awarded.
Mark Langill, writing for *Dodger Insider*, declares that the title “legend” is fitting for Dusty Baker, who was honored as a “Legend of Dodger Baseball” on Friday. At Dodger Stadium, Baker received a custom blue blazer, which he found more comfortable than the legendary title itself. “I don’t consider myself a legend,” said Baker, a two-time All-Star and former Gold Glove and Silver Slugger Award winner with Los Angeles from 1976 to 1983, adding that he always saw Reggie Smith as the team’s best player.
The ceremony was attended by Smith, former Dodger Ken Landreaux, and five living Dodger Legends: Steve Garvey and Fernando Valenzuela (2019), Kirk Gibson (2022), and Manny Mota and Orel Hershiser (2023). Two other legends, the late Don Newcombe (2019) and Maury Wills (2022), were also remembered.
Earlier in the day, Baker spoke at a press conference, expressing gratitude to the Dodger coaches and mentors who shaped his career after he joined Los Angeles through a trade with the Atlanta Braves on November 11, 1975. In that deal, the Dodgers acquired Baker and Ed Goodson in exchange for Lee Lacy, Jerry Royster, Tom Paciorek, and Jimmy Wynn.
