**Carolina Forest Parents Share Opinions on Proposed Attendance Zones for New Elementary Schools**
Horry County Schools has launched a form for parents to provide feedback on proposed attendance boundaries for two new elementary schools in Carolina Forest, located on Carolina Forest Boulevard and Ronald McNair Boulevard. These additions will increase the number of elementary schools in the area to five starting next school year. While Palmetto Bays Elementary and Waccamaw Elementary will not see changes in their attendance zones, adjustments will affect Carolina Forest Elementary, Ocean Bay Elementary, and River Oaks Elementary.
Parents recognize the need for new schools but express a desire to have input in decisions about transferring their children.
Stephanie Catabia, whose daughter is a fourth grader at Ocean Bay Elementary, expressed concern about the impact of the move, despite the new school being closer to their home. She values the established relationships at the current school and worries about disrupting her daughter’s final year of elementary school.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Smith, another parent, welcomes the new schools due to the heavy traffic to Ocean Bay. His son is set to start kindergarten at one of the new schools, and while he doesn’t oppose the attendance lines, he empathizes with families who are already settled at their current schools.
