A former executive points out the positives of the Hawks’ offseason despite their low
The Atlanta Hawks’ offseason changes have yielded results that should satisfy those focused on salary cap strategy. Their financial situation ranked the highest among all metrics in ESPN’s “future power rankings.”
The effect of these changes on the current roster, which ranked in the bottom third, is still uncertain as the Hawks undergo significant adjustments this offseason.
The Hawks were ranked No. 23 overall on the list.
They received the same ranking in both the Players and Management categories, which is a concerning indicator for the upcoming season. However, comments from ESPN’s Bobby Marks, a former Brooklyn Nets executive, suggest a potentially brighter future.
“The trade of [Dejounte] Murray to New Orleans brought Atlanta two valuable first-round picks,” Marks noted on September 24. “Even though they won’t have their own first-round pick for the next three seasons due to the Murray acquisition from San Antonio in 2022, the Hawks are ranked No. 16 in draft assets. Additionally, trading Murray eliminated the $114 million owed to him, giving Atlanta more financial flexibility under the luxury tax this season.”
