EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Denver Broncos running back Tyler Badie was taken off the field on a backboard during Sunday’s game, but head coach Sean Payton declined to provide any updates on his condition following the team’s 10-9 victory at MetLife Stadium.

Badie was placed on a backboard by medical staff toward the end of the first quarter and was carted to the locker room at the start of the second quarter, just as the Jets offense and Broncos defense prepared to resume play.

Denver Broncos running back Tyler Badie was carted off the field strapped to a backboard during Sunday’s game, but head coach Sean Payton provided no updates on his condition following the team’s 10-9 victory at MetLife Stadium.

Badie was placed on a backboard by medical staff near the end of the first quarter and carted off at the start of the second quarter. Initially listed as questionable with a back injury, he was quickly ruled out after further evaluation. It was unclear if he also sustained a concussion, as his helmet hit the ground during the tackle.

When asked if Badie would fly back to Denver with the team, Payton responded, “No update on Tyler.” Later, Payton declined further discussion about the injury.

Team sources later confirmed Badie returned to Denver on a commercial flight after being examined by doctors in New Jersey, accompanied by a Broncos medical staff member.

Running back Javonte Williams, who stood by Badie as he was placed on the backboard, said their coach reassured them that Badie would be okay. He added, “Tyler’s a fighter,” and mentioned he went to check on him after seeing him on the ground.

The injury occurred after a minus-4-yard reception on the Broncos’ final play of the first quarter when Jets linebacker Quincy Williams tackled Badie, causing him to fumble. Badie fell face down while attempting to recover the ball, and after walking to the bench clutching his lower back, he was laid on a backboard and carted off.

Badie, who spent all of 2023 and the first three weeks of the current season on the Broncos’ practice squad, had recently been promoted to the active roster. He entered the game with 86 yards on 10 carries.
