Sherrone Moore and No. 24 Michigan criticized by college football fans after their loss to No. 22 Illinois.

The Michigan Wolverines lost to the Illinois Fighting Illini 21-7 on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois.

In his first season as head coach, Sherrone Moore’s Wolverines now have a record of 4-3, while the Fighting Illini improved to 6-1, achieving their first victory over Michigan since 2009.

Illinois went into halftime with a 13-7 lead, showcasing a strong defensive performance against the undermanned Wolverines, which included five sacks, all leading to losses.

Michigan’s starting cornerback, Will Johnson, who is projected to be a top-five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, left the game in the second quarter with a noticeable limp and a suspected lower-leg injury, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
