In Beirut: ordan’s Foreign Minister warns that Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah is driving the region toward catastrophe.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, strongly condemned Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon, warning that it is dragging the Middle East toward the “abyss of full-scale regional war.”
“We are witnessing a catastrophe and a dangerous escalation that threatens the entire region,” Safadi stated, holding Israel responsible for the aggression, the rising tensions, and any further escalation.
Safadi made these remarks during a press conference following a meeting with Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Beirut. He also expressed Jordan’s support for Lebanon’s efforts to elect a new president and reaffirmed the importance of implementing the UN Security Council resolution that ended the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war, ensuring that southern Lebanon remains under the control of Lebanese forces and UN peacekeepers.
Israel has intensified its operations against Hezbollah, which has been launching rocket attacks into Israel since October 8. Israel’s aim is to push Hezbollah away from the border and enable evacuated Israelis to return home.
Safadi also noted that Jordan, like Lebanon, supports a U.S.- and France-led initiative for a three-week ceasefire in Lebanon.
Amid heightened tensions over a possible Israeli retaliation for Iran’s missile attack, Safadi stressed that Jordan rejects the use of its airspace by either side in the conflict. “We will not become a battlefield for anyone,” he said, emphasizing that Jordan has conveyed this message clearly to both Iran and Israel.
