The difference between DSSC and SSC is what many people who are interested in joining the Nigerian Army has been asking. Before we talk about the difference between this two words, we need to first of all understand the meaning of them and it will make it easier for you to understand.

The word DSSC and SSC is mostly used by the Nigerian Army because, it is a kind of recruitment conducted by them. The Nigerian Army DSSC simply means Direct Short Service Commission while the SSC simply means Short Service Commission.

The first thing is that before you can be able to join the Nigerian Army through their DSSC Program or SSC, You must be a graduate. You can try out the recruitment which is meant for the SSCE holders which is the regular recruits intake which is also referred to as RRI. Now let’s go down to the difference in details.

Difference between DSSC And SSC In The Nigerian Army

The Nigerian Army DSSC which simply means Direct Short Service Commission is for graduates with career which they will like to be practicing in the Army if they are accepted in the Nigerian Army. Example of those kind of men is Lawyers, Doctors and even Engineers. Once you already have a career you are practicing, it’s advisable you join the Nigerian Army through the DSSC.

Now let’s talk about the SSC. The Nigerian Army SSC is mostly meant for those who wish to be combatant in the Nigerian Army. Those who join the Nigerian Army through the SSC is always
expected to compete with the regular cadets.

Please note that the regular cadets are those who went to the Nigerian Defence Academy and spend the period of 5 years before they are commissioned into the Nigerian Army. So when you join the Nigerian Army through the SSC, You are likely to be deployed to the fighting corps in the Nigerian Army which is the Infantry, Armour and Artillery.

Another difference between DSSC and SSC in the Nigerian Army is that the DSSC always graduate from training with the rank of Lieutenant, Captain or even Major depending on your area of specialisation while those who joined through the SSC are always given the rank of second Lieutenant.

Another difference between DSSC and SSC in the Nigerian Army is that those who joined through the Nigerian Army SSC are likely to be promoted faster than those who joined through the DSSC.

The reason is because the age bracket is different when applying. DSSC accept older people into the Nigerian Army while SSC accepts younger ones. The reason is because those who joined the Army through SSC are always sent to the fighting ground.
